Synthesia is a UK-based company offering an AI-powered video generation platform, creating audio and video from natural text prompts. Users choose a digital voice and an avatar from Synthesia’s collection of stock avatars (160+ as of May 2024) or create their own custom avatar, which will speak the text from the prompt and can be made to perform various gestures and actions. Synthesia also offers voice cloning to match users’ voices.
The platform also offers multiple features and integrations to enhance the creation of videos, including a conversational AI script assistant, a music and media library, video templates, and automatic closed captioning. The generated video can be embedded into a website or downloaded in full-HD quality. It also offers Personal Avatars, a feature allowing users to create custom AI avatars with natural backgrounds.
Synthesia claims that its platform is GDPR- and SOC 2-compliant and the company applies content moderation to ensure the ethical use of AI.
Use cases include:
1) Training videos: Creating videos for learning and development, localized in over 130 languages and using either a custom avatar of a known figure (i.e., a company official) or choosing from Synthesia’s stock avatars
2) How-to videos: Customer support guides, technical onboarding, knowledge sharing, and product training
3) Marketing videos: Custom localized marketing content on a short timescale, including newsletters and product videos
Synthesia offers integration with several platforms, allowing videos to be created directly in apps and websites. As of April 2023, the platform was integrated with ~40 integrations included Notion, Shopify, YouTube, Microsoft Powerpoint, Vimeo, Moodle, Kickstarter, and WordPress.
Synthesia uses proprietary models to train neural networks to generate digital avatars by analyzing existing videos in a process called “neural video synthesis.”
