SmartKem is a company focused on developing a new class of semiconductor polymer transistors with the potential to revolutionize the display industry. The company's core technology is its patented TRUFLEX semiconductor and dielectric inks, which are liquid electronic polymers used to create organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). In February 2024, SmartKem announced a collaboration with FlexiIC to develop low-cost, rapid turnaround custom circuits using organic transistor technology. This collaboration aims to expand the appeal of OTFT technology to a wider range of applications, including sensors and internet of Things (IoT) devices. The company's process can use direct laser writing, eliminating the need for process masks and allowing potential customers to develop circuitry for new applications rapidly and at low cost.

SmartKem has also entered into a joint development agreement with Shanghai Tianma Microelectronics Co. Ltd. to integrate its OTFT technology with Tianma's oxide transistors for developing OTFT-based microarray biochips. This collaboration aims to create large area, high noise margin, low power logic devices for various sensor and IoT applications that do not require high-frequency operation of CMOS silicon devices.

As of May 2024, SmartKem successfully uplisted from the OTCQB to the Nasdaq Capital Market, trading under the symbol "SMTK." The company has an extensive intellectual property portfolio, including 125 granted patents across 19 patent families and 40 codified trade secrets.
