NatureMetrics is a British DNA-based biodiversity monitoring company that provides a digital SaaS platform to support the quantification of net gains in biodiversity and marine health monitoring. By integrating eDNA with advanced geospatial data, NatureMetrics creates detailed landscape-level maps that provide insights into the health and composition of ecosystems. The company sells its DNA-based biodiversity monitoring products in more than 85 countries. It operates two eDNA laboratories in the UK and Canada, which have provided comprehensive data from soil, freshwater, and marine samples on species ranging from bacteria to blue whales.
The company offers a range of services for the identification of various species, including eDNA analysis from water, Great Crested Newt eDNA analysis, DNA analysis from soils and sediments, and invertebrate identification. As of August 2023, the company had served over 700 client organizations, conducted more than 500,000 detections, and delivered 3,000 projects.
NatureMetrics also offers iNPI (Intelligent Net Positive Impact), a long-term managed service for site-based clients aiming to showcase a measurable net gain in biodiversity. This product integrates eDNA with geospatial data to create landscape-level biodiversity value maps. Anglo American, one of its clients, was set to pilot the product globally. As of September 2023, additional upcoming products included a marine health monitoring dashboard and a restoration tracker, catering to long-term ecosystem improvements and the growing nature-based solutions sector.
