Pixpay

Headquartered in France, Pixpay is a neobank offering prepaid debit cards to children over the age of 10 via a mobile app. Its debit cards are offered under three plans, costing EUR 2.99, EUR 5.99, and EUR 9.99 per month. The card can be used to make in-store and online purchases, be linked with Apple and Google Pay, and be used to make free ATM withdrawals. The account does not allow for overdrafts, and funds deposited are insured up to EUR 100,000 by the Deposit Guarantee and Resolution Fund (FGDR). Children can use the app to track and budget expenses, as well as check the account balance, while parents can use the app to track, allocate, and control funds of their children.

GoHenry acquired Pixpay for an undisclosed sum in July 2022, as part of its geographic expansion plans. Furthermore, in April 2023, GoHenry was acquired by Acorns, a micro-investing platform, in an all-equity deal. Following the acquisition, GoHenry will operate as GoHenry by Acorns in the US, while it will continue to operate under the GoHenry and PixPay brands in the UK and Europe.

Key customers and partnerships

Pixpay had nearly 200,000 customers as of October 2022, and it provides its products in partnership with Treezor, an electronic money and payment services provider.

Funding and financials

In October 2020, Pixpay raised EUR 8 million (USD 8.8 million) in a funding round led by Global Founders. It had planned to use the fresh funds to hire more staff, strengthen its market position in France, as well as for geographic expansion.
