Based in London, Vertical Future provides hardware and software solutions for the vertical farming industry. The company’s key products include: advanced growing systems, container farms, a SaaS platform called “Diana” (which offers vertical farming data and insights), and advanced LED lighting systems (supports crop growth indoors).
Vertical Future also builds customized vertical farms in buildings for third parties on a turnkey basis. In January 2021, the company partnered with Heck (a sausage manufacturer) to build a small vertical farm at its Yorkshire facility to grow microgreens. In May 2023, the company led the Innovate UK-funded Vertical Indoor Protein from Leaf (VIP Leaf) research project, a two-year project that will develop methods to use vertical farming facilities to grow amaranth , a new source of plant protein that will decrease the UK's reliance on imported plant proteins such as soy and pea.
The company’s advanced growing system, which mainly produces leafy greens, has an expected life of 20 years and is provided along with the company’s software solution, Diana. The company claims that this system is considered to be one of the most sophisticated Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems in the world, providing a 172% increase in yield per cubic meter when compared to the industry average. The company has deployed these systems in Mayfair, London Fields and Deptford. Upon its seed funding round in April 2020, the company noted that it will accelerate the launch of its Deptford site in Southeast London by the end of the year.
Vertical Future continues to expand its presence via partnerships. The company partnered with Syan Farms (a new vertical farming company) to launch a vertical farm in the Midlands. Syan Farms also joined Vertical Future as its research partner (focusing on seed breeding, genetics, and robotics technologies). In February 2021, Vertical Future also partnered with GreenBridge, a Lebanon and Egypt-based agriculture company, to expand its presence to the Middle East. As of February 2021, the company’s system has grown produce for more than 100 restaurants in the UK. In December 2022 , the company partnered with Vertical Farm Systems (VFS), a subsidiary of HSL Constructor dedicated to working on the Singapore Advanced Vertical Farming (SAVE) project.
In January 2022 , Vertical Future raised GBP 21 million (USD 28.7 million) in a Series A funding round to be used for scaling up production. The funding round valued the company at GBP 100 million (USD 136 million).
