In September 2020, Element acquired Gitter, a developer-focused chat platform to get more developers on board with the open Matrix messaging protocol.

Funding and Financials
Element raised USD 30 million in a Series B funding round led by Protocol Labs in July 2021.The funds were allocated to develop its technology, including investments in its P2P architecture to bypass server requirements and introduce a decentralized voice and video conferencing service.
