Blackbird Foods

Blackbird Foods is a plant-based food startup based in New York. The company leverages its seitan—an ingredient created by extracting protein from wheat flour to create a conventional meat-like texture and taste—to create its plant-based products. Blackbird’s product portfolio includes plant-based sausages, plant-based wings, plant-based frozen pizza, and wholesale seitan. In June 2024, the company expanded its plant-based wings range with Texas BBQ and Thai Chili flavor varieties.

Key Partnerships

In April 2023, Blackbird Foods partnered with UK-based startup Daring Foods to launch a new frozen pizza, Blackbird Buffalo Pizza, exclusively at US Sprouts Farmers Markets. The pizza features Daring's Breaded Plant Chicken Pieces with vegan cheese, onions, and a New York-style hand-tossed crust. In November 2023, the company collaborated with Beyond Meat to launch a new plant-based Pepperoni Pizza.

Funding and Financials

In April 2024, the company launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine. The minimum investment amount was USD 249, with additional benefits offered to early investors via the StartEngine platform. The funds were to fuel its next phase, which included adding two new plant-based wing varieties to its portfolio.
