 <p>Recycling firm TerraCycle has teamed up with pet supplies retailer PetSmart to start an in-store recycling initiative for pet food, treats, and cat litter bags. Named the "PetSmart Pet Food &amp; Treat Bags Free Recycling Program," it is currently operational in 100 PetSmart stores across Arizona and New Jersey. The program allows shoppers to dispose of empty pet product bags in specified recycling receptacles at involved stores. TerraCycle then converts these bags into raw materials for the production of new recycled products.</p>
 <p>The goal of this partnership is to reduce the approximately 300 million lbs of plastic waste generated by the US pet food industry each year. A large portion of this waste is not recyclable through standard curbside collection. PetSmart intends to evaluate the program's effectiveness in the initial stages before considering a broader rollout.</p>
