Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology to be deployed at T-Mobile Park’s Walk-Off Market

Geographic expansion

  • Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One are to be introduced at Seattle major league baseball stadium T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners.

  • Specifically, the cashierless technology will be deployed in a new store on the ballpark’s main level - the Walk-Off Market, which is set to open over the summer. The Walk-Off Market will eliminate lines and streamline checkout, allowing fans to return to the baseball game swiftly.

  • Fans can either use the Amazon Palm recognition service by hovering their palms over an Amazon One or insert their credit cards to enter the market, shop at the market for a range of products including beer, Northwest wines, ready-to-drink cocktails, a variety of Coca-Cola products, grab-and-go snacks, Mariners Dogs, Ballpark Nachos and soft pretzels, and Mariners-branded merchandise, and leave with the goods. However, the fans will have to show their ID to an attendant if they wish to purchase alcohol.

  • Three kiosks outside the Walk-Off Market will allow the fans to register for the Amazon Palm recognition service.

<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake: This is Amazon’s second cashierless deployment at a major league baseball stadium, following the launch of Just Walk Out tech in April at Houston Astros’ baseball stadium . Several other startups also deployed their automated checkout technologies across sports stadiums earlier this year. For instance, Instacart deployed Caper Counter at Boston’s Fenway Park in April and Zippin partnered with Aramark to open checkout-free stores in Houston’s multi-purpose NRG Stadium in March. Cashierless technologies appear an increasingly lucrative opportunity for retailers housed in sports stadiums, which rely on fast and convenient checkout options.<ul>
