Tesla opens ‘Tesla Sem’ truck reservations to the public

Product updates

  • Tesla, the developer of “Tesla Semi” battery-electric Class 8 semi-trucks with autonomous capabilities, has opened its reservations and preorders to the public.

  • Tesla Semi comes in two models with different price tags depending on the range. The 300-mile range model is priced at USD 150,000, while the 500-mile range model carries a price tag of USD 180,000. Customers can place orders for a deposit of USD 20,000.

  • Unveiled in November 2017, Tesla Semi comes with its self-driving technology “Tesla Autopilot.” The autopilot feature is equipped with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, and event recording with Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 2 automation.

<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake: Before Tesla opened its Tesla Semi reservations to the public, the company secured several notable pre-orders for the truck from companies including Karat Packaging (10 trucks; December 2021), MHX Leasing (10 trucks; April 2021), Pride Group Enterprises (150 trucks; November 2020), Walmart Canada (130 trucks; September 2020), and PepsiCo (100 trucks; December 2017). However, the company pushed back mass production of the truck to 2023 because of supply chain shortages; it began limited production in December last year.</ul>
