Refraction AI, an autonomous delivery droid developer, has partnered with fast-food restaurant chain Chick-fil-A to deploy a fleet of 10 delivery droids in downtown Austin, Texas for a commercial pilot starting next month.
The company will deliver meals to Chick-fil-A customers within a mile radius of two of the latter’s restaurants in the area, with plans to expand the service to include another Austin location in late June.
Analyst QuickTake: Today’s partnership further strengthens Refraction AI’s goal of expanding its presence in Austin. The company launched its operations in Austin a little less than a year ago and kicked off the service in partnership with Southside Flying Pizza restaurant in September. Furthermore, Refraction AI competes with peer startups such as Coco Robotics , which also has operations in Austin. On a separate note, droid-based autonomous deliveries are not new to Chick-fil-A either. The restaurant chain previously partnered with peer droid startup Kiwibot to pilot autonomous food deliveries in Santa Monica, California in April 2021.
