Corsight AI ranked top facial recognition algorithm by NIST for reducing racial bias

Product updates

 • Corsight AI, a developer of facial recognition technology jointly headquartered in the US and the UK, has announced that its facial recognition algorithm has been ranked top in the recent facial recognition vendor test (FRVT) in 1:1 verification category conducted by the National Institute of Standards (NIST).

 • The company has been able to improve the algorithm to reduce discrimination and racial bias by identifying people from different demographic groups (people of color and white people) with equal accuracy.

 • Corsight’s algorithm is currently being used as the industry standard and used as the reference point in NIST reports.

Analyst QuickTake: Facial recognition technology has been facing criticisms due to several reasons with one of them being racial bias. For example, Amnesty International launched a campaign to ban facial recognition for police surveillance globally last year citing racial bias of the technology as one of the reasons. In the US, several people of color were also wrongfully arrested previously triggering backlash against the technology. Improving the algorithm to eliminate such racial bias could aid the industry to grow while also improving the position of the company in the facial recognition market.
