Origin Materials and ATC Plastics partner to commercialize carbon-negative carbon black

Partnerships

 • Origin Materials, a carbon-negative materials manufacturer, has partnered with ATC Plastics, an Indiana-based producer of black concentrates for use in plastic applications, to jointly develop and commercialize carbon-negative black for plastic masterbatch (an additive used to color plastics), corrugated pipe, plastic extrusion, and molding applications.

 • As per the partnership, ATC Plastics has also signed an agreement to purchase sustainable carbon black, which Origin Materials develops using its proprietary hydrothermal carbon (HTC), a 100% bio-based resin made from sustainably sourced wood residues.

Analyst QuickTake: This partnership follows the partnership with Intertex announced two days earlier and is the second such partnership the company has announced this week and third this year for the commercialization of sustainable carbon-black. The company also partnered with Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings (MCHG) in April 2022 to develop bio-based carbon-black to produce tires for the latter.
