Novel Farms, a California-based startup using synthetic biology and microbial fermentation for the production of cultivated meat, has raised USD 1.4 million in a pre-seed funding round backed by Big Idea Ventures Joyance, Sustainable Food Ventures, and CULT Food Science Corp among other firms.
The funding is planned to be used for additional hires and begin scaling of production.
<ul><li> This funding round comes just as the company developed a method to reduce cost of production by 99.27% for its lab-grown pork loin , which was also announced this week.</ul>
