Kalera to supply vertically produced leafy greens to Trader Joe’s

  • Kalera, a Norwegian hydroponic vertical farming operator, has partnered with Trader Joe’s, a California-based grocery chain, to supply vertically produced leafy greens to 40 Trader Joe’s stores in Texas. 

  • Kalera expects to supply all 40 Trader Joe's locations using its Houston facility. The company’s “Krunch”, “Butter”, and “Frisee” lettuce varieties will be available to purchase for Texas-based Trader Joe customers starting from USD 2.99.

  • Kalera also reports that, as of date, it has grown its retail store count by 25 percent compared to 2021 and expects to grow beyond 40% by the end of 2022.

<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake : Kalera continues to expand its presence across the US by securing distribution agreements with retail and food service customers. This partnership appears to be part of their growth strategy outlined in their Q2 2022 earnings release . As of date Kalera supplies to retail and food service customers such as Kroger (400 stores), Publix (440 stores), H-E-B (340 stores), and US Foods .<u/l>
