Lightyear, a Netherlands-based solar EV pioneer, has raised EUR 81 million (~USD 80.4 million) in funding bringing the company’s total funding to USD 184.4 million.
The funds have been raised in preparation for the production of Lightyear’s first vehicle, Lightyear 0, beginning in late 2022 and to also ensure the continued achievement of development milestones for the company’s second model Lightyear 2.
The company’s fundraising includes capital from a public consortium consisting of Invest-NL, the province of North Brabant, and regional development agencies for the provinces of North Brabant and Limburg; new private funds; and follow-up investments from SHV and Dela.

The company has established partnerships with Valmet Automotive and Koenigsegg to manufacture Lightyear 0’s and work on innovative EV technologies, respectively. Lightyear has also made efforts to establish vehicle orders by partnering with companies such as LeasePlan and The Sharing Company .</ul>
