Product updates

  • California-based leader in plant-based meats, Beyond Meat, announced its collaboration with Yum Brands-owned Taco Bell, to launch Beyond Carne Asada Steak next month at 50 locations in the Dayton, Ohio area.

  • The new item was created by the Taco Bell test kitchen and Beyond Meat’s innovative team of culinary experts and will feature in Taco Bell’s quesadilla with the option to add to other customizable items at no additional charge.

  • Made using vital wheat gluten and faba beans, including other simple ingredients, the steak is claimed to provide a similar taste and texture as Taco Bell’s regular carne asada, while being non-GMO, hormone-free, and certified vegan.

  • AnalystQuickTake: Beyond Meat initially partnered with Taco Bell in January 2021 to develop and test new plant-based menu options, with testing expected to take place in 2022. However, due to the carne asada product falling below expectations the trials were called off in December 2021 , yet, the two companies continued to work together leading to this much-anticipated launch. Further, Taco Bell is testing its in-house developed plant-based options at 50 locations in Birmingham, Alabama.
