Maryland-based quantum computing company IonQ has secured a USD 13.4 million contract from the US Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) to supply IonQ’s trapped-ion quantum systems to conduct research and development on quantum hardware, software, and algorithms. The terms and financial details of the contract have not been disclosed.
The public-private partnership will enable AFRL to explore quantum computing across various science and technology projects that have the potential to enhance the nation's defense and security technologies.
The IonQ-AFRL contract was amongst the expected yet uncertain contracts IonQ had previously mentioned in its Q2 results .
