Dutch cell-cultured meat producer Meatable announced a partnership with contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Esco Aster for its international expansion efforts to Singapore.
Through the partnership, the companies will develop cultivated pork products (dumplings and sausages) on a small scale by 2024, aimed at food service outlets with supermarket expansion planned for 2025.
The development team claims the new products will have a similar structure, texture, juiciness, and pork flavor to that of conventional pork.
AnalystQuickTake: In 2021, Esco Aster received approval for its bioprocessing platform “AsterMavors” which is claimed to shorten the development cycle and eliminate the need for a pilot plant. Leveraging this technology with Meatable’s proprietary Opti-ox technology for cultivated pork production can enable companies to produce cultivated products quickly and cost-effectively. On other developments for Meatable, it has also partnered with Royal DSM for cost-effective growth media and plans to enter the German market prior to 2025.
