Meatable partners with Esco Aster to produce cultivated pork

Partnerships

  • Dutch cell-cultured meat producer Meatable announced a partnership with contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Esco Aster for its international expansion efforts to Singapore.

  • Through the partnership, the companies will develop cultivated pork products (dumplings and sausages) on a small scale by 2024, aimed at food service outlets with supermarket expansion planned for 2025.

  • The development team claims the new products will have a similar structure, texture, juiciness, and pork flavor to that of conventional pork.

  • AnalystQuickTake: In 2021, Esco Aster received approval for its bioprocessing platform “AsterMavors” which is claimed to shorten the development cycle and eliminate the need for a pilot plant. Leveraging this technology with Meatable’s proprietary Opti-ox technology for cultivated pork production can enable companies to produce cultivated products quickly and cost-effectively. On other developments for Meatable, it has also partnered with Royal DSM for cost-effective growth media and plans to enter the German market prior to 2025.
