Wing, the drone delivery division operated by Google, has announced plans to expand its drone-based delivery operation to Ireland and is currently recruiting drone operators for the expansion.
British aviation recruitment specialist Qualitair is working with Wing to hire suitable employees, with plans to commence a “limited drone delivery demonstration” near Dublin next month.
Wing is currently preparing for the launch, including consulting the local community, and plans to expand the service beyond Dublin and close by areas in the future.
Google Wing was established as a subsidiary of Alphabet with a focus on a drone-based cargo delivery. Wing began operations in 2014 in Queensland, Australia, and later expanded to include the US (Christiansburg in Virginia and Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas) and Finland. The company has currently completed 250,000+ commercial drone-based deliveries globally.
Analyst QuickTake: The expansion to Ireland makes it the fourth country Wing has operations in and the first country in Europe that Wing entered. Ireland-based startup Manna Drone Delivery also has an established presence in Ireland and has been conducting trials in Oranmore (Galway), Moneygall (Offaly), and Balbriggan (Dublin) in partnership with major companies such as Samsung and Tesco. Wing’s entry we believe will now add to the competition.
