DroneDek, a developer of landing platforms for drone deliveries, partnered with A2Z Drone Delivery (A2Z), a commercial drone solutions developer, to integrate DroneDek’s smart mailbox with A2Z’s second-generation automated delivery winch “RDS2” for drone-based deliveries.
A2Z’s tethered freefall drone delivery system allows drones to deliver parcels without landing, thus, the smart mailbox complements its product offering.
Analyst QuickTake: Today’s partnership comes on the heels of DroneDek launching a crowdfunding campaign targeting to raise USD 5 million. DroneDek first showcased its technology in August, in Lawrance, Indiana, delivering mail and food to its mailboxes via drones. Meanwhile, A2Z also unveiled its RDS2 system and cargo drone “RDST” last August. RDS2 can carry 22 lbs and does not require specialty delivery boxes. Its patent-pending auto-release function allows for the release of the package without the need for landing or a human receiver. It can also pick up loads of up to 11 lbs while on hover.
