PsiQuantum secures USD 22.5 million contract from Air Force Research Lab

Partnerships

  • Palo Alto-based hardware quantum computing company PsiQuantum secured a USD 22.5 million contract from the US Air Force Research Lab (AFRL)—facilitated by the USD 25 million federal funding in April—to co-design advanced quantum photonic chips that will be manufactured by GlobalFoundries. The terms and financial details of the contract have not been disclosed.

  • The public-private partnership will enable AFRL to leverage PsiQuantum’s silicon photonic quantum expertise to advance the nation's defense and security, as well as explore the technology in various industries, including climate management, finance, and healthcare.

  • Just last month, the AFRL awarded a USD 13.5 million contract to IonQ to supply the latter’s trapped-ion quantum systems to conduct research and development on quantum hardware, software, and algorithms.
