The Dutch government confirmed its investment of EUR 60 million (~USD 60 million) towards the cellular agriculture industry in the Netherlands with an additional EUR 25 million (~USD 25 million) expected in co-financing.
This plan will be initiated with the coordination of the Cellular Agriculture Netherlands Foundation, along with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality. The Dutch government expects the investment to yield EUR 1.25 - 2 billion (~USD 1.25 - 2 billion) in Dutch growth capacity by 2050, a reduction in CO2 emissions by 1.8 million tons, and reduce ammonia by 15-20 kilotons per year.
Analyst QuickTake: The EUR 60 million investment was first announced in April 2022 and was reserved under conditions from the National Growth Fund. The addition of co-financing extends the total grant value to EUR 85 million making this the largest government grant in the world in the cell-cultured industry. Apart from significant investments supporting the industry, the Netherlands also approved public cultured meat sampling in March 2022.
