Stratasys acquires software company Riven to offer production-scale additive manufacturing

M&A

  • Stratasys, a provider of end-to-end additive manufacturing (AM) solutions, including the sale of printer systems and on-demand manufacturing services, announced the acquisition of software company Riven, to offer production-scale additive manufacturing solutions.

  • Riven’s cloud-based quality assurance software will be integrated with Stratasys’ GrabCAD platform to inspect, diagnose, and automatically correct deviations between CAD files and actual 3D printed parts.

  • This will help users to print more accurate parts at a lower overall cost when scaling-up production.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Last month Stratasys merged its subsidiary MakerBot with 3D printing solutions provider Ultimaker forming a new entity targeting desktop 3D printing. The acquisition of Riven targets a different segment focused on scaled production, which indicates that the company is looking at different avenues for growth.
