Starship Technologies, an autonomous delivery droid manufacturer, has expanded its droid-based delivery service to include Cambridge in Cambridgeshire, UK in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and the convenience store chain Co-op.
The service will be available for 12,200 residents residing in the Cherry Hinton and Queen Edith areas of Cambridge. Customers can place orders via Starship’s mobile app, upon which droids will be deployed to deliver groceries from Co-op two Co-op stores in the area.
Analyst QuickTake: Starship Technologies expanded operations to Cambridgeshire in May 2022, when it piloted droid-based deliveries in Cambourne–that too in partnership with Co-op and the Cambridgeshire County Council. Its operations in the UK also span across several towns in Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire (since 2018) , and Central Bedfordshire in Bedfordshire–mostly conducted in collaboration with Co-op.
