Trillium Renewable Chemicals, an Alabama-based bio-based chemical manufacturer, has been selected to receive USD 2.5 million in grant funding by the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Advanced Manufacturing Office.
The funds will be used to build a bio-based acrylonitrile demonstration plant with its development partner, Matric, which will accelerate the commercialization of Trillium’s process to manufacture bio-based acrylonitrile (bio-ACN), to be supplied to Solvay . The plant is expected to produce the volumes needed to qualify as a supplier.
This project is also expected to provide the information to further de-risk and design Trillium's first commercial plant, for which the company will collaborate with Koch Modular for the front-end loading engineering design.
This grant funding follows a series A funding round that raised USD 10.6 million in December 2022 , which will also support the company’s efforts to build the demonstration-scale plant.
