Optibus, a mobility planning and management platform specializing in city-based bus travel, and MobiBrasil Group, a Brazilian public transportation services provider, announced a partnership to implement Optibus' Planning and Scheduling software across MobiBrasil Group's Recife and Sao Paulo operations, including the largest bus network in Latin America.
The partnership is expected to innovate Brazil's public transportation industry through the incorporation of Optibus’ cloud computing, AI, and optimization algorithms into MobiBrasil's business operations. In addition, it provides scenario planning tools that may be used to increase the efficiency of automated processes, trip frequency, staffing levels, route planning, and operational spending limits.
Founded in 1982, MobiBrasil, one of the biggest public transportation providers in Brazil, is also responsible for running SPTrans, the biggest bus network in Latin America. Additionally, it established the first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Recife, the capital of the State of Pernambuco and the largest city in Northeast Brazil. Across all operations, MobiBrasil serves one million passengers each day.
Analyst QuickTake: The partnership builds on the past week's agreement between the two parties to use Optibus' planning and scheduling platform in the Sorocaba BRT project, which MobiBrasil has been managing since August 2020. It also reaffirms Optibus' commitment to expanding its footprint globally with an emphasis on Latin America, where it launched a new office in Santiago, Chile, in March 2022.
