Pony.ai, a China and US-based self-driving vehicle technology company, has rolled out a set of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) dubbed “PonyClassic,” “PonyPro,” and “PonyUltra” for private passenger cars, domain controllers, and loop tools.
The solutions offer functions such as valet parking and autonomous driving on expressways and city roads. However, they utilize different sets of sensors and chips and have varying computing power. The “PonyClassic” is considered the basic version and is available for “thousands of Yuan” (hundreds of US dollars), which has reportedly made the solutions competitive within the market.
Pony.ai’s newly established dedicated department for ADAS solutions “Personally Owned Vehicles,” is responsible for product development and operations of the business. The company has already begun deliveries of the solutions after opening the tools for orders in 2022.
Analyst QuickTake: Pony.ai rolling out its ADAS offerings signifies the emergence of a third business pillar for the company, which already has a presence in the autonomous passenger vehicle and truck markets. Today, we see autonomous driving tech developers increasingly shift their focus toward the development of safety and driving assist tools. Stellantis, a Netherlands-based multinational automotive manufacturer, acquired aiMotive, a Hungary-based developer of modular self-driving, and ADAS technologies in November to complement the development of driver assistance features. Ford, too, announced plans to focus on ADAS tech after closing down its autonomous tech development unit Argo AI.
