Partnerships
Product updates

  • Samsung announced partnerships with Qualcomm and Google to develop XR products and experiences, with possible service partnerships in the XR space with Meta and Microsoft in the future.

  • Qualcomm is to provide the chipset for the potential XR device, with software being provided by Google, although the company declined to elaborate on specific details of the partnership.

  • In 2015, Samsung launched the Gear VR headset followed by the launch of its VR headset, Odyssey, in 2017. Samsung’s return to the XR industry comes at a crucial time for the company, given that the company recorded its lowest quarterly profit in years

  • Analyst QuickTake: The announcement further solidifies Qualcomm’s position as a leader in XR chipset manufacturing; the company’s Snapdragon chipset is featured in flagship headsets, such as the Quest Pro and Pico 4 Enterprise , which was launched in October 2022, among others.
