Amazon slows expansion of its brick and mortar stores

Product updates

  • Amazon has announced plans to slow the expansion of its Just Walk Out and Amazon One-powered brick-and-mortar stores.

  • The company plans to close certain Amazon Fresh and Go stores with low-growth potential. However, Amazon reiterated its commitment to grocery space and to building a strong omnichannel grocery experience supporting different types of customers shopping online, in-store, or both.

  • Analyst QuickTake : Amazon recently announced the closure of a Just Walk Out-powered Store in Dalston , alongside first-time launches of Amazon Fresh locations with manned checkouts with its Just Walk Out technology in Croydon and Monument. Both these moves signal a change in the company’s deployment strategy of its automated checkout-powered store formats.
