McDonald’s announced that it will add McPlant Nuggets as well as the McPlant burger made with Beyond Meat to its menu in Germany, beginning 22 February, and will roll out in 1,400 restaurants across the country.
The nuggets are made using peas, corn, wheat, and tempura breading. The launch follows the limited-time test carried out at nine restaurants in the Stuttgart area in August 2022.
The launch of the new product occurred just a few days before the second anniversary of the announcement of a three-year global strategic agreement between Beyond and McDonald's, which established Beyond as the primary supplier of patties for the McPlant burger.
Analyst QuickTake: McDonald’s and Beyond Meat collaborated to introduce innovative plant-based menu items by leveraging McDonald's renowned brand and Beyond Meat's expertise in plant-based meat development. In Europe, the launch of plant-based meat products has been successful with some countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, and now Germany, adding them to their permanent menus. However, in Beyond Meat's home market, the United States, the McPlant burger experienced sluggish demand, leading to the test being concluded without a nationwide launch or addition to the permanent menu.
