Ireland-based AR platforms developer Imvizar raised EUR 0.8 million (~USD 0.85 million) in an oversubscribed seed funding round, with participation from a group of notable angel investors, including Gareth Lambe, the former head of Meta in Ireland and Michael Dwyer, founder of Pigsback.com.
Funding is set to be used to develop Imvizar’s AR technology and for geographic expansion.
Imvizar provides AR experiences that use life-sized characters and environments to engage users and provide interactive ways to experience the stories of a place targeted at the tourism and entertainment industry. In Ireland, Imvizar launched experiences in popular tourist destinations such as Spike Island, Sligo, Dublin, Waterford, and the Kerry Way. Imvizar also offers an experience platform where cultural AR app creators can upload their experiences to reach a global audience.
Analyst QuickTake: Imvizar’s focus on creating AR experiences in historic landmarks sets it apart from recent funding rounds raised by other AR platforms such as Spheroid Universe , focused on AR advertising applications, and Ludenso , an AR-based authoring platform for textbook publishers.
