Impossible Foods launched a leaner and less fatty version of its plant-based beef mince with 75% less saturated fat and 45% less total fat compared to 90/10 lean ground beef. The product will contain 21g of protein per serving with no trans fats or cholesterol. Beef Lite will be available at select stores in the fresh meat aisle and will be rolled out to more locations over the following weeks.
According to the company, Beef Lite is a direct substitute for minced beef and can be used in applications, including tacos, lasagna, stir-fries, or meatballs. A 12-ounce pack of Beef Lite will retail for USD 8.99 which is USD 11.98 per pound and ~112% more expensive than traditional meat (90% Lean/10% Fat, Ground Beef).
The announcement comes weeks after the company launched three new plant-based poultry products ; Impossible Spicy Chicken Nuggets, Impossible Spicy Chicken Patties, and Impossible Chicken Tenders.
