Zipline, a drone-based delivery services provider, has partnered with Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan, to deliver prescription medication to residents in Washtenaw County, Michigan, from 2024.

The deliveries will be conducted using Zipline’s latest drone delivery system, “P2,” which was unveiled earlier this week.

Analyst QuickTake: Zipline just unveiled its next-generation electric autonomous drone platform called “P2,” which is capable of dispatching a droid from the drone for last-inch delivery. The drone is capable of carrying a maximum payload of eight lbs covering a 10-mile radius. Upon arrival at the destination, the droid descends on a tether and navigates using fan-like thrusters to deliver the packages for retrieval. Today’s news adds Michigan Medicine to Zipline’s existing partners, including Intermountain Health, MultiCare Health System, and the Government of Rwanda , which have already announced plans to extend its drone-based delivery operations to include the new P2 system.
