Food Cycle Science partners with Saugeen Shores to launch food waste diversion pilot program

Partnerships

  • Food Cycle Science (FCS), a Canadian company offering a food-waste-into-soil converter, has partnered with Saugeen Shores town and the Municipal Innovation Council (MIC) to test The FoodCycler, an indoor compost alternative that speeds up the natural decomposition of food. The program fulfills a recommendation made by the town's Environmental Stewardship Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to enhance waste management and diversion strategies.

  • Two models of The FoodCycler are available for purchase at a subsidized price of USD 150 and USD 300, respectively, with a total of 270 units on offer. FCS will contact participants to process payment, providing them with the option of either picking up the unit or having it shipped to their home.

  • The program allows residents to register and choose one of the subsidized devices. Participants can track their waste processing over a 12-week period and complete a survey at the end.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Food Cycle Science has been partnering with municipalities across Canadian cities to promote its FoodCycler system. In November 2021, the company partnered with the Bonfield Municipality and, earlier this month, launched a food waste diversion pilot project in partnership with The Municipality of Kincardine . As of February 2023, Food Cycle Science has partnered with 71 municipalities across Canada through its FoodCycler Food Waste Recycling Pilot Programs.
