German autonomous mobility solutions provider Goggo Network has partnered with British autonomous vehicle software developer Oxbotica to retrofit the latter’s autonomous driving system into Goggo Network’s autonomous delivery vehicles (ADVs) to test middle-mile deliveries for retailers and other customers in Europe.
Initially, Goggo Network will deploy its ADVs powered by Oxbotica in Spain for partners including Spanish pizza chain Telepizza, Spanish supermarket chain Dia, and French retailer Carrefour.
The company plans to commence tests this year, with a safety driver on board to take control if needed. The fleets will be deployed on fixed routes between partners’ distribution centers. If proven successful, Goggo Network plans to extend the service to partners across Europe, including France.
Analyst QuickTake: Goggo Network already had deals inked with Telepizza, Dia, and Carrefour for various last-mile delivery projects in Spain and France using its droids and ADVs. The company might now be looking to test autonomous deliveries on fixed routes as it seems easier compared to delivering to individual customer homes.
