NUBURU, a seller of 3D printers and related products, has been awarded a position on a named Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) from the US Department of Defense (DOD) to fabricate and deliver prototypes and equipment for solid-state high-energy laser (HEL) weapon systems.
NUBURU will leverage its manufacturing capabilities of laser diode, fiber optic, and optical subsystems to assist the DOD in fulfilling its requirements related to national security concerns.
NUBURU is one of the seven companies that are qualified to take part in the multiple award contract, which has a maximum ceiling value of USD 75 million. The other companies that have been selected are the divisions of Rolls-Royce, General Atomics, Dynetics, II-VI, Lockheed Martin, and nLIGHT.
Work is expected to be completed by March 2028.
Analyst QuickTake: NUBURU appears to be making headway with US government agencies as it was previously contracted by the US Air Force for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II project to develop blue laser technology for area printing, as well. On a separate note, the company also went public on NYSE via a SPAC deal to accelerate the development of high-brightness products to meet growing global demand.
