UK-based air taxi and drone logistics company Skyports has been awarded GBP 1.2 million (USD 1.5 million) as a part of the UK government's “Future of Freight” plan. The funds come from Future of Freight’s Freight Innovation Fund (FIF), which is backed by GBP 7 million (USD 8.7 million) to fund nine new innovative freight projects.
Skyports intends to utilize the funds to deploy drones to deliver packages on remote Scottish islands, such as the Orkney Islands.
Analyst QuickTake: Skyports already has a presence in Scotland and has conducted trial deliveries in partnership with authorities and organizations including Royal Mail. Peer startups like Dronamics and Avy are also targeting the Scottish markets, thereby adding to the competition.
