Israeli cell-cultured meat company Steakholder Foods has announced that it has successfully produced the world's first ready-to-cook cultivated grouper fish product using its 3D bioprinter technology. The cultivated fish is produced in partnership with Singaporean cultivated-seafood company, Umami Meats.
Steakholder Foods' technology enables its 3D-printed grouper fish product to be ready to cook after printing, unlike fully cultivated meat products that require further incubation and maturation. According to the company, its technology mimics the flaky texture of cooked fish and is the subject of a provisional patent application.
Analyst QuickTake: Stakeholder Foods partnered with Umami Meats in 2023 to use 3D bioprinting technology and customized bio-inks to develop a scalable method for producing structured cultivated fish products, including eel and grouper. The partnership also received a grant from the Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation in January 2023 .
