Virtual work platform Katmai raises USD 22 million in Series A funding

Funding

  • Virtual work platform Katmai emerged from stealth and raised USD 22 million in a Series A funding round led by Starr Insurance Companies with participation from investors such as NFL Super Bowl Champion Sidney Rice.

  • The funding is to be used to develop Katmai’s virtual work platform further.

  • Katmai is the creator of a browser-based 3D virtual office space that incorporates video cameras and avatars. The virtual office product features private and co-working spaces, spatial audio, personalized environments, and spontaneous interactions, designed to create a shared in-office experience for remote workers. The technology allows users to move their avatars into virtual glass offices, where they can hold meetings and engage in one-on-one interactions.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Recently, funding interest in metaverse platforms has been primarily directed toward gaming and social platforms. However, Katmai's recent funding round highlights its ability to distinguish itself from other metaverse work platforms such as Gather. While Gather offers a 2D pixel-based work platform, Katmai creates photorealistic office spaces for a more authentic in-office experience.
