Food Cycle Science (FCS), a Canadian company offering a food-waste-into-soil converter, has received CAD 1.65 million (~USD 1.2 million) in investment from the Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN) as part of its Food Innovation Challenge.
The funding will be used to further develop FCS's enzyme degradation technology and prototype a commercial "One-bin" system that can degrade bioplastics and transform them, along with food waste, into a soil amendment, contributing to a circular food economy.
Analyst QuickTake: FSC has been focusing on promoting its FoodCycler system and has partnered with municipalities across Canadian cities including the Bonfield Municipality and The Municipality of Kincardine for this purpose. The company is now expanding its focus to develop solutions to tackle plastic waste as well in the food sector with its One-bin system.
