Citymapper, a UK-based leading transport planning app, announced that it lowered the charges of its premium features and introduced a new subscription plan for its ad-free offering.
The company stated that all premium features will now be accessible to all users for no additional charge, with the option to remove advertising for a new, reduced price of USD 1.49 per month (USD 9.99 annually). However, some features are currently only available on a particular platform. For instance, lock-screen navigation is only available on iOS, while an Android-only feature shows the best time to leave for a destination.
Analyst QuickTake: Citymapper has struggled with declining revenues and increasing operating losses in recent years, which led it to experiment with different business models and revenue streams such as a paid bus service, a multi-transport travel pass, and an enterprise offering. It also introduced premium features such as lock-screen navigation, bus-only routes, and turn-by-turn voice guidance. Before these efforts could be realized, however, Citymapper was acquired by Via in March 2023 in what was widely regarded as a “fire sale.”
