Solar Foods, an alternative protein ingredient developer, held a tasting event in Singapore in collaboration with The Lo & Behold Group to debut menu items produced using its flagship protein, Solein.
Solein is a single-cell protein made using microbes cultured in carbon dioxide and electricity. It claims to contain all essential amino acids, iron, and B vitamins and offers a versatile alternative for use in a range of food and beverage applications.
The company expects to open its first commercial-scale facility by 2024 in Finland to increase capacity and lower production costs.

In October 2022 , the company received regulatory approval from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA). It is also seeking Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status in the USA and has filed for novel food authorization in the UK and the EU.
