Mewery Meat, a Czech food tech company, has unveiled what it claims to be the first cultivated burger made with pork and microalgae cells.
The cultivated burger prototype claims to offer a taste that surpasses traditional plant-based burgers and is made with a combination of pork and microalgae cells, providing a unique and sustainable alternative to conventional meat.
The company is working toward seeking approvals for its fortified pork products in the US and Singapore markets, following the recently granted approvals for cultivated chicken in those regions.
Analyst QuickTake: Mewery Meat first announced the development of the hybrid cultivated meat prototype in February 2022 . It’s composed of 75% pork cells and 25% microalgae cells, and claims to eliminate the need for fetal bovine serum (FBS). FBS as a growth medium in cultured meat production is associated with ethical concerns, animal welfare issues, contamination risks, and inconsistent supply. Moreover, the company expects to launch its first commercial product within two years, pending regulatory approval.
