Re:meat, a Swedish cultivated meat startup, has emerged from stealth and has unveiled what it claims to be the world’s first cultivated Swedish meatballs. The company is also working to build Scandinavia's first large-scale cultivated meat facility. According to the company, the cultivated meatball received positive feedback during a recent tasting event.
Re:meat has developed an alternative for fetal bovine serum (FBS), enabling the company to deploy its resources toward scaling production.
Re:meat, founded in 2022, focuses on the large-scale development of cultivated meats—starting with beef—and plans to have a market-ready product by 2025–2026 aimed at foodservice.
Analyst QuickTake: Recently, there has been an uptick in cultivated meat companies emerging from stealth which may be due to recent developments in the regulatory landscape. Last month, Omeat, a California-based cultivated meat producer, emerged from stealth with USD 40 million in funding. Omeat also plans to build a pilot plant with a focus on cost reduction.
