Delivers AI, a Turkish developer of droids for food delivery, has launched a droid-based grocery delivery service in the coastal Belgian city of Knokke-Heist in partnership with France-based multinational retailer Carrefour. Initial trials will take place till mid-August.
Delivers AI has deployed a fleet of three delivery droids from Carrefour’s location in Lichttorenplein, covering a 400-meter radius. Carrefour customers can place orders through the Deliveroo app, selecting from around 500 products. Deliveries are offered free of charge to consumers.
Carrefour aims to expand this service to other Belgian locations, including smaller towns without existing home delivery options in the future.
Analyst QuickTake: Carrefour Belgium initiated a previous trial in January 2023, also in collaboration with Delivers AI; however, it was confined to the Corporate Village in Zaventem and did not involve deployment on public roads. In contrast, the present partnership's latest announcement extends the trial to the coastal Belgian city of Knokke-Heist, enabling delivery robots to operate on public streets. Carrefour also has a December 2022 partnership with German autonomous mobility solutions provider Goggo Network to test autonomous delivery vehicle (ADV)-based deliveries in Paris, France.
