General Motors' (GM's) autonomous car subsidiary, Cruise, is expanding its robotaxi service to Nashville, Tennessee. The company will commence testing its self-driving vehicles in Nashville streets this week, with plans to launch a robotaxi service in the coming months.
Cruise is also considering testing its vehicles in other cities, and Atlanta, Georgia, is reportedly among the potential options being considered.
Analyst QuickTake: Cruise's expansion has been rapid, moving from operating only in San Francisco to seven cities within a span of about a year. The list includes Phoenix (Arizona), Austin , Houston, and Dallas (Texas), and Miami (Florida). However, Cruise currently has commercial operations in only three of the cities—namely, San Fransisco, Austin, and Phoenix.
