Enerkem, a Canadian waste-to-energy provider, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Technip Energies, an engineering and technology company with a focus on sustainable fuels.
Under this, the two companies have signed a collaboration agreement to accelerate the deployment of Enerkem’s technology platform, which produces biofuels and circular chemical products from non-recyclable waste materials.
As such, Technip Energies will contribute its expertise in engineering, technology integration, and project delivery to support projects developed by Enerkem.
Furthermore, in order to expedite the deployment of its technology, Enerkem will establish a development company to acquire sites and secure relevant permits for the methanol biorefinery design.
Analyst QuickTake: This collaboration comes after Enerkem’s partnership with Dimeta in July 2023 to carry out a feasibility study to examine the development of two large-scale projects to convert waste into renewable and recycled carbon dimethyl ether (DME). The company also completed a large funding round last year in April 2022 , raising CAD 255 million (~USD 203 million). The company intended to use the funds to expand its geographical footprint in Europe and to scale up the deployments of its gasification technology.
