Origin Materials, a carbon-negative materials manufacturer, and Sustainea Bioglycols, a joint venture between Braskem and Sojitz Corporation that focuses on sustainable chemistry, have formed a strategic partnership to advance bio-based materials production using Origin's technology platform and Sustainea's expertise in glycol products.
As per the partnership, Sustainea has signed two multi-year capacity reservation agreements to purchase Origin’s bio-based FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid) and PTA to be used as feedstock for applications like PET packaging and textiles.
Analyst QuickTake: Origin is actively securing capacity reservation agreements for its bio-based material after having initiated its Origin 1 plant last month. This is the third strategic partnership signed over the last two weeks. Last week, the company partnered with 1) Husky to incorporate the sustainable chemical FDCA for advanced packaging and other applications and 2) Terphane to supply advanced bio-polymer PEF (polyethylene furanoate) to produce high-performance films.
