VinFast acquires VinES Energy Solutions

M&A

  • VinFast, a Vietnamese EV company, reported that Vingroup’s Chairman, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, has donated 99.8% of VinES Energy Solutions’ shares to VinFast. VinES is a member company of Vingroup and specializes in researching, developing, and manufacturing advanced lithium-ion batteries for mobility and energy storage applications.

  • The merger is intended to improve VinFast’s self-sufficiency in battery technology and production chain. It is also likely to improve the company’s competitive edge in the EV market. As part of the merger, VinFast will acquire VinES’ intellectual property related to battery cells, battery packs, manufacturing facilities, technology, partnerships, and supplier contracts.

  • Analyst QuickTake: In April 2023 , VinFast received USD 2.5 billion in funding. The funding stemmed from a USD 1 billion grant from Pham Nhat Vuong, as well as a USD 500 million grant and USD 1 billion loan from Vingroup. The company expected to use the funds to support its growth objectives.
